In these days of war and uncertainty, many of us feel torn. When those who threaten us are harmed or brought low, part of us may feel relief—or even satisfaction. Another part wonders whether that reaction sits uneasily with our values.
Jewish tradition takes this inner conflict seriously. Through biblical texts and rabbinic stories, we’ll explore what Judaism says about victory, compassion, and the complicated emotions that arise when our enemies suffer.
Join senior Pardes scholar Rabbi Zvi Hirschfield for a text-based exploration of how Jewish tradition grapples with this issue.
You will question, think deeply and develop a more sophisticated appreciation of how Judaism relates to the complex reality in which we live.
