Job Opening–Kitchen Manager

The Pardes kitchen manager is responsible for maintaining the kitchen and providing communal meals and food supplies for the Pardes community.

Meals are served twice weekly: a community lunch for 60-90 people and a dinner for 20-30 people. Meals should be vegetarian, nutritious, and provide options for students who cannot eat gluten or dairy.

The kitchen manager is responsible for preparing, serving and cleaning up from these meals.  Similarly, the kitchen manager will supply/order whatever is needed for periodic trips, Friday-night tisches, and at times even a communal meal on Shabbat. These extra events occur approximately once per month.   On a regular basis, the kitchen manager orders from approved suppliers whatever is needed to stock the student coffee station, kitchen, and food. Approval of invoices for food and supplies and submission to the bookkeeping department for payment is an integral part of kitchen management.

The Pardes kitchen would be available to the kitchen manager for private use – be it catering or other food services.  A candidate interested in utilizing this opportunity is viewed favorably by Pardes as it will allow for work to be better spread over the course of the week.  We are seeking someone who will be interested in building a friendly rapport with students and who is “rosh gadol” – someone who understands that supplying food relates to more than the food itself, who takes pride and ownership over the entire kitchen. Community meals are an important basis for the type of community we strive to build at Pardes: inclusive, healthy, attentive to individual needs, while also building unity.

Pardes is also open to exploring alternative models for filling this need, including separating the kitchen manager from the cooking and ordering cooked food from chefs or suppliers.

Job requirements:

  • Experience in food services, estimating quantities, menu planning
  • Experience in kitchen management, including purchasing, billing, and kitchen maintenance
  • “Rosh Gadol” attitude
  • Pride in work, reliability, professionalism
  • Desire to contribute to a warm, communal work environment

Approximately 20-25 hours a week.

Start date: September 1, 2024

Please send resume to resume@pardes.org.il with “Kitchen Manager” in the subject line.  Only select candidates will be contacted. No phone calls, please.
