Celebrating Rivkah Glick

Pardes alumni are making an incredible impact on our world.

They are leading and creating organizations and businesses of all kinds, responding to humanitarian crises, writing novels, educating at all levels, creating works of art, and so much more! In celebration of Pardes’s 50th, we are highlighting 50 standout alumni whose accomplishments exemplify the rich texture of the Pardes community worldwide.

MEET RIVKAH

Rabbi Dr. Rivkah Glick is a neurosurgeon, author, and Jewish mindfulness facilitator. She is involved in medical educational missions throughout Southeast Asia and South America, and teaches mindfulness in various Jewish communities. Rivka is also the leader of a weekly mindfulness meditation group.

HOW DOES PARDES CONTINUE TO AFFECT YOU TODAY?

The change in consciousness that occurred at Pardes was the most important event in my life. It re-centered my life into a G-d-centered world, not a me-centered world, where I am trying to do G-d’s work. For me, this means the relieving suffering, caring for others, helping the poor, and acting with kindness, compassion, generosity and justice in all my thoughts, actions, speech, and relationships. Not an easy feat!

CAN YOU SHARE A SPECIAL PARDES MEMORY?

Shabbat dinner or lunches in teachers’ homes with their families filled with food, conversation, teaching, and wisdom, and of course, all the lovely trips we took, especially the one called borders: to Golan, Hebron and Gaza. I led a starlight meditation outside in the Golan on one trip with everyone in a circle. It was so lovely.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF IN YOUR WORK?

I have brought a sense of spirituality into my medical practice. I try to bring compassion back into the doctor patient relationship, as I mentor new students, and teach them what a life of service is all about.

WHAT DID YOU DO FOR THE FIRST TIME AT PARDES?

I developed a true Shabbat consciousness of what it means to observe, enjoy, and remember Shabbat. I also learned how to tie the knots on my tallis along with my teachers and fellow students, and I learned how to daven daily with heart.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE SPOT IN JERUSALEM?

My two favorite spots are the shuk on friday afternoon and the Beit Midrash where I am surrounded by my ancestors (books).
